"To the naked eye, our species appears to be thriving, but seen through the lens of a microscope, are we starting to witness the seeds of change?…Is changing the way we give birth changing our children?…changing our species?"
What is MicroBirth?
MicroBirth is a new feature-length documentary looking at birth in a whole new way; through the lens of a microscope. The film investigates the latest scientific research that is starting to link the way babies are born with health in later life, particularly the increased risk of children developing certain immune-related conditions, including asthma, type 1 diabetes, celiac (coeliac) disease, obesity, cardio-vascular diseases, mental health disorders and even some cancers.
The purpose of the documentary is to raise public awareness of the importance of “seeding the baby’s microbiome” at birth with the mother’s own bacteria – this bacteria helps train the immune system to recognise what is “friend” and what is “foe”. We believe “seeding of the baby’s microbiome” should be on every birth plan – for even if vaginal birth isn’t possible, immediate skin-to-skin contact and breastfeeding can still help to provide bacteria crucial to the development of the baby’s immune system. In the scientists’ view, if we can get the seeding of the baby’s microbiome right at birth, this could make a massive difference to the baby’s health for the rest of its life. Consequently, we believe that “Microbirth” is of extreme importance for global health and potentially, for the future of mankind!

THE DISCUSSION PANEL
We are happy to present experts and experienced mothers from the San Diego community to share knowledge, wisdom, and inspiration for this event. Each panel member brings something unique, something ordinary (redefining "normal"), and something dynamic to this event.
Christina Adams – A former NPR Day to Day commentator will discuss the science behind camel milk in human breastfeeding and as a milk alternative. In 2006, Adams reached across the world to two Israelis to obtain camel milk for her son, diagnosed with autism at age 2. One was a milk producer and the other an esteemed scientist. After drinking his first half-cup at bedtime, Adams’ son showed remarkable improvement in speech, attention and emotional connection the next morning. Her new Global Advances in Health and Medicine case report is the first US-origin medical journal article on camel milk treatment. She is the author of A Real Boy: A True Story of Autism, Early Intervention and Recovery. She writes and lectures internationally on camel milk, health, and autism-related topics.
Ms. Adams' contribution to the panel is to provide information on the relationship between gut health and alternative milk sources. Ms. Adams can be reached at facebook.com/christinaadamsauthorautismadvocate

Stephanie Williams, DC – Dr. Steph, as patients call her, is a family chiropractor in Pacific Beach who specializes in pregnancy and pediatric care. As a child, Dr. Steph was raised to pop a pill for any ache, pain or infection. Cesarean sections, antibiotics and ibuprofen were considered normal. After receiving regular chiropractic care from the age of 12, her health drastically improved and the course of her life was forever changed. This inspired Stephanie to pursue her passion by helping people, especially families, through holistic, preventative chiropractic care. She has a passion for seeing children get well and stay well from an early age. As a Webster certified chiropractor, she works with pregnant mothers' nervous systems to allow proper bio-mechanical and neurological function of the sacrum, pelvis, and uterine ligaments. This allows for an easier, safer pregnancy and delivery, with less strain on the baby and mother. Dr. Steph is a member of the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association, the California Chiropractic Association and the International Chiropractors Association, and a regular guest lecturer at San Diego Mesa College.
Dr. Williams' contribution to the panel will be a unique perspective on supporting mothers and babies for a healthy and safe delivery and holistic pre & perinatal care that respects the power of the innate intelligence within every living being and allowing the fullest expression of that intelligence… as well as a little bit of fun!
